Hey, all. I've been away for a while but I am glad to see that everyone is still fighting the good fight. At work we have a mix of XTS2500's, XPR7550's, and APX6000's. Currently I am using an XPR7550 with a PMMN4046A speaker mic. The reason I like this RSM so much is because it has the volume control, emergency button, and side programmable button, but unfortunately it is missing the audio jack for an earpiece which I use quite often and like very much. Looking on the big M website, I noticed that there are in fact a few RSM's that are listed as being compatible with both some of the APX and XPR radios. I know that these radios are built in the same plant and that the programming cable is the same (I do all of our programming for the whole town) so it got me thinking that I would try out my RSM on our APX radios and alas it worked! The e-button functions, the side programmable button functions, everything works!

Now, there is only ONE speaker mic I have found that has everything I want INCLUDING the port for an audio accessory and that is the HMN4101B. Can anyone give me any insight as to whether this 4101 (which is listed as an APX6000 accessory) would also work on my XPR7550? I am thinking that if my current PMMN4046A worked without issue then the pinouts have to be the same and the HMN4101B should/would work and I'll be a happy camper! Before I beg my boss to buy it for me I want to get some insight.

The audio connector on the HMN4101B is not a standard 3.5mm audio port.

I did read that but I am ok with that because I will just buy the earpiece/plug specific to the 4101. IIRC it is 8mm???

Yes, 8mm, submersible design. It's not a standard 1-pin, though. It's an 8-pin (7 around a center pin)

Gotcha. So do you think that the 4101 will actually work with the XPR7550? When I put the 4046 on the APX6000 I even tried reprogramming some of the accessory button functions to make sure they all worked and they did every time. What is even more curious is that in the XPR CPS where I would program the accessory button functions, they have drop down menus for unmarked side button, 1-dot button, and 2-dot button (just like the 4101 has) but there is currently no RSM released for the XPR series that has anything more than a single, unmarked programmable side button.

Couldn't say for sure as I don't have any XPR units.

Do you own a 4101 or 4103? The myriad of pictures online of it from stock photos don't really give me an idea of how big it is in comparison to other mics so I was just curious.

The 4101 is no display, no channel selector. The 4103 is the same only with a display. I have a 4104 (display + channel selector). All these units are submersible and have the same audio jack. Size-wise, they are the same. As for a comparison to the PMMN4046A, the 4100 series a not only wider, but taller. I have a PMMN4065A (same as the 4046, but submersible... and no 3.5mm audio jack).

If you're going to buy the 4100 series just get more buttons, I'd recommend going all the way and getting a 4104. Truthfully, I never really liked the smaller speaker mic heads (4065, 4046, etc)...they always feel too tiny in my hand.

Too bad this site doesn't have any way to allow me to upload any pics without having them already posted on a web host. I could send you a photo comparing the two mics side-by-side.

Thank you very much for your replies and your insight. I looked at the 4103 and 4104 as well and the only reason I didn't consider them was because I didn't want to start pressing my luck as far as hoping all of those additional features (display and channel knob) were also compatible with the XPR. I know if worse comes to worst I can just return it for a refund but my fingers are crossed. Would you be willing to email me those comparison pictures if I PM you my email addy?

The volume button and display do not work with the XPR. Here is the error message when connected to the XPR7550. I've noted the same when trying to use an XE mic on an XPR radio. On the flip side, all of the TRBO accy's I've tried on the APX have worked fine.

I just received a newly released microphone for the APX. It might be what you're looking for.

It looks the same as the mic on the left. It has a volume Hi/Low toggle on the top, Orange top button, one programmable side button and a 3.5 MM earjack. part# PMMN4099A.

Made for the APX, but seems to work on a XPR7550 (not all functions tested). I'll check the other button functions to see if they work on the XPR7550's and advise.

REVISED: Yes, the top orange button and side button operate on the XPR7550 portable. The mic seems to be fully functional on a XPR7550 radio.

Nick, thank you very much for that info and the additional shots. Would you mind checking the functionality of the two programmable side buttons on that mic on the XPR? The reason I am curious is because in the CPS for the XPR under "Accessory Buttons" there is a drop-down for "no dot button", "1-dot button", and "2-dot button" but there is current no RSM for the XPR with multiple side buttons so I am curious to know if that works. Now that I know that the 4103 doesn't work with the display function I will go for the 4101 if the programmable side buttons work and I will just have to miss out on the volume function. Sir, I am definitely interested in checking this out. Does the high/low volume toggle work as well or is it non-functional as Nick said it was on the 4103?

I have only tried it on a XPR7550. It's simply a high/low volume switch. Not a volume ramp up/volume ramp down switch that allows you full control of the radio volume.

I will do, sir! I edited my initial reply a bit too late I think, but can you tell me if that 4099 is the normal size like the PMMN4046 I am currently using or is it the miniature style like the PMMN4025A?

The PMMN4099 is the same size as the PMMN4046.
