XPR4350 Radio detection problem

I'm working with a few XPR4350 radios. I have Mototrbo CPS 10.0 and the HKN6184C programming cable. The computers in use are a Win 7 Pro 32bit and a Win 7 Pro 64bit.
Initially, had a problem using an XP machine. Called Motorola and was informed the CPS would not work on XP. Ok. Unistalled CPS from XP machine and installed on Win 7 64 bit. Success! No problems, except this machine my personal computer and the radios are for work. Got our IT folks to build a Win 7 machine (32bit), no network connection - our system REALLY hates unauthorized network connections. Only software is OS, antivirus, Reader, and Mototrbo CPS. Tried reading a radio - nothing. Radio is not detected when plugged in. Try a different radio - success! Try a third one - not detected. Back to second radio - not detected. Ok, back to Plan B - personal computer. Tried all radios - not detected. These are the same radios I programmed earlier with this computer.
At this point, I'm thinking the problem is the programming cable, so I'm looking at a new cable. Question - which radio connection is better, the mic plug or the accessory connector for programming?
