Hi All -

Not sure if anyone would have or know where to get this info but I have an EX600XLS VHF that has what I found out to be based on the board layout and matching up pictures on the web a Transcrypt SC20-430 or 416 wire in board. I am asking to see if anyone has a manual or connection diagram/table of those transcript modules for the EX600XLS or even a manual of what the connects on the board are (TX/RX input/output, etc.). I found an application note for a Midian TVS-2 board which supposedly does similar encryption functions and shows the connects to the specific locations on the EX600XLS controller board but since Transcrypt is out of business with these boards from what I read on the net I am not sure if the connects are the same or not. Any info someone has on the Transcrypt boards that would be great.

Basically I removed the board from the radio and on receive the open squelch feature does not seem to be passing audio. If you listen to an on channel signal it receives fine. Also the LED on top of the radio is a steady green when you power it up. Its not a show stopper since the radio does seem to work but I would like to get it all working right if I can. And of course it may have nothing to do with the board at all but it is something to look into.

Since you have not received any specific responses, here is some general info that may help.

I don't have any specific info for your radio but I have successfully removed add-on excryption boards from several other types of radios. Like you, I was unable to get any schematic of the add-ons.

My technique is to remove the add-on, noting where it was connected, and then determine what radio functions no longer work. The next step is to inspect the radio circuit board for any obvious cut traces and repair them. The points where the add-on was connected are obvious places to look first.

If there still are issues, go through normal trouble shooting procedures for that symptom to identify where there may be a cut trace, removed component, etc. that was not obvious on the visual inspection. This does require the schematic and PC board diagrams for the radio but I have usually found the remaining problems in a few minutes.

Circuits that may be affected, depending on the specific add-on module, are TX and RX audio paths, PTT line and the squelch circuit.

While it would be nice to have details about the add-on wiring, the points where it was connected to the radio will usually identify the function of each wire. The service manual for the radio is really the key to successful restoration of normal radio operation.

I have not yet encountered a radio that I was not able to put back to normal fairly quickly. The biggest problem is when the add-on installation was crudely done with damage to the circuit board that required jumpers to bypass cut traces that had been damaged beyond repair.

Thanks for the response and the tips on this. I will have to do more of the "stare and compare" between the service manual and what the board has at those connect points. The radio is working for the most part though and your experiences in bringing things back after removing these boards is encouraging. Thanks again.
