MT1000 with a 470-512 split

I just picked up two MT1000s for $28 shipped on Fleabay. One is a 42-50 lowband split, which I can do something with. The other is a UHF 470-? Split. Is there any hope of getting this one working at GMRS or 440 amateur?
Is it as simple as the Batlab article on hacking the codeplug? Probably will have to align the receiver as well?
Thanks,
Purpleman

the 470-512 MT1000 will always be a 470-512 radio. You MAY be able to get a few MHz (+ or -3) and get it to go down to say, 467 or so but as far as 440MHz ham, not possible. Remember these radios are very old and the VCO's, front end bandpass filters and such are not broadband to begin with like newer radios. The instructions for out of band RSS tricks are well covered on the Batlabs site.

Thanks for the reply.
I might try and turn it into a GMRS radio
