I am getting some low level processor noise on one of my frequencies.

It is a pulsing noise which disappears when I toggle certain keys but then reappears - I presume its some kind of processor related noise which reappears when the processor returns to its "standby" state...but its just on one freq with other freqs 12.5KHz away not affected

I can hear it without any antenna attached. Since I lowered the SQ, the noise is strong enough to trigger the red LED and signal bar and stop the radio scanning.

Will adjusting the RX Reference Frequency remove the noise from this particular frequency? The RX Ref Freq has 4 options - Default, 2.100, 2.225 and 2.400. Is this some kind of offset and which value should I select? The Help Pages warn against tweaking the Ref Freq. So does adjusting the ref freq actually involve the replacement of the Ref Xtal with a new value (soldered in) so its impossible to easily shift unwanted carriers etc?

There is a Waris technical bulletin for the first hardware revision of the Waris for this according to M a firmware update would resolve the issue not sure what version "fix" the problem . Google might help ... current compatible “allowing 12.5k and 25k programming” FW V5.17 should diminish the problem.
Also does the radio gets crazy when you press key so that it would not turn off ? the reason I am asking is that I’ve seen some Chinese housing that were few millimeter too small would bend the board making a short in the radio and creating such issue ....
I think there is a way to know the mfg. date of you radio from serial number or just with fw version if you have 2.0 and lower your are probably affected by the firmware issue ...
If firmware and housing are ok then make sure radio is tuned properly there aint not paper manual (to my knowlege) to tune thèses but the help menu from the tuning software has all the info ..take you time to read all info is there ... yes a software help section that realy helps ..

I have found that the early hardware HT1250's (where the front top logo is printed on the case rather than on a label) have NO internal noise and are more sensitive. Its the later hardware versions which seem to have the sproggies and noise - I have experienced this on 3 identical radios all with different "later" firmware versions - but maybe I need to update them all.

Part of the problem was that I had lowered the SQ threshold so that I could RX weaker signals but this resulted in the internal noise causing issues. With the HT1250, you CANNOT adjust the SQ on an individual frequency basis BUT you can adjust the SQ on a channel spacing basis. A simple fix was therefore to set 12 or 20KHz spacing as LOW SQ and 20 or 25 KHz spacing as HIGH SQ....so any frequencies with internal carriers are set as a 20 or 25 KHz spaced frequency!!!

OK on the Chinese fake cases - mine are all real Moto cases but I have experienced the junk Chinese cases - I could remove the metal back plate just by pressing on the front of the radio!! The quality of the Chinese plastic was very good - it was just the sizing that was wrong. You needed a real Motorola next to it to tell the difference - I guess there are many people who don't realize they have a fake.
