gr1225 issue that has me puzzled...

Post by FCM »

Purchased a uhf 45 watt gr1225 repeater online. Programmed to my frequencies and cw id etc. Problem is that it is only outputting about 3 watts. It is selected as high power in the mode screen. Ok, so also I changed the hangtime to three seconds and it appears the hang time isnt more than about 1 second. Has anyone ever seen something like this? I even bumped the hang time to 7 seconds with no change. Is it possible that the processor is not seeing the changes and is somehow effecting the power etc? I checked the power right at the transmitter before the duplexer. Also the duplexer was tuned to our frequencies. Any ideas?..

So - you checked the power at the radio and the duplexer. What were the measurements?

GR1225s are well known for having PA problems, usually due to the solder joints on the PA transistor going bad from heating/cooling cycling over time. If you bought it used there's a pretty good chance it's due for a resoldering.

I wirk on those regularly and agree. Might try an reflow solder or just replace the caps and xsistor. The components can be expensive. You may be able to find a good hle3013 pa deck on ebay.... bummer nobody likes doa
