NMN6193 mic on MT2000 VHF with range problem
I have a set of MT2000's and a set of NMN6193 lapel mics. These are VHF radios and have been confirmed to be putting out 5W and are aligned. When I put a NMN6193 lapel mic on them their range drops to essentially nothing. I go from 1-2 miles in an urban setting to no more than 1000 feet. Any idea what may cause this? Thanks for any suggestions.

- What radios do you own?: Jedis and Sabers, mostly.

Check that the mic doesn't have the cable from a public safety speakermic on it, the one with the nub that engages the RF switch in the accessory connector. Sounds like what would happen if the antenna got disconnected.

Assuming this nub would depress the little black circle button (excuse my lack of vocabulary on the subject) it does not. I have 10 of them and they all behave the same way and none have a nub that would depress the little black circle/button on the radio.

Keep the mic cord away from the antenna. I forget which series it was (maybe the XTS2500) that the tx power would fall drastically when the mic cord was in contact or very close to the antenna.

Thanks, I will give that a try and report back with my findings.
Re: NMN6193 mic on MT2000 VHF with range problem
I tested the radios today this time being absolutely certain that the cable for the mic did not touch the antenna. They had identical range with or without the mics this way. Thank you for the suggestion - never would have thought of this!
