Removing CIU?

Post by n9dki »

Trying to re-purpose a 60" rack with an MSF5000-era THN6599B CIU stuck in it. I say stuck because the front panel of the the CIU has a MEDECO lock (virtually unpick-able) and a retainer bracket that is secured from inside the CIU. All-in-all a pretty good tamper-proof design on Motorola's part.

So are there keys available? Is the old CIU worth anything? Or should I just have at it with a crowbar?

Thanks!

In my experience, each set of keys were unique. Use a sawsall (reciprocating saw) to cut the rack mounts off.

How thick is the door material? It appears to be aluminum. Wonder if a hole saw just large enough to go around the cylinder could be used to remove cyliner wholesale....

Did you try removing the four Torx screws holding the top on the cabinet? Then prying the door loose.

There IS a security plate behind the lock making even hole sawing out the lock difficult.
