Hello,

I'm looking to install a Vertex VXR-1000 to a high power MCS2000. I need guidance on wiring the 9 pin wiring harness from the VXR-1000 to the MCS2000 25 pin accessory connector. I found an post on P25 that is very close to what I need http://communications.support/threads/3 ... TEX-VX1000 but it's for a CDM750. I'm not familiar enough with the pin terminology on the MCS2000 to cross reference that diagram. Anyone out there able to help?

You will need to program the MCS200 for RUS output, aka COS to go to pin 7 And a pin for EXT PTT.

If you wouldn't mind Will, could you detail how to do that? Any MCS2000 I've worked with had pin 21 hard set as the PTT, and the only pin that is 'programmable' is Pin 8 for car audio mute. From what I understood, the programmable I/O pins only apply to the European version of the MCS.

Yes I'd LOVE to get an indication on how to set what IO pin for what for the average H38 MCS.

You can't. I believe the pins Will posted are for the GM900, the European equivalent. Check the speaker leads, pins 1 and 3, for a DC voltage level when there is audio being received. I believe there is a 5.75Vdc on the pins, one of which can be used to activate a simple transistor circuit to get the needed ground signal.

What we have done is use two series resistors from the two speaker outputs. One resistor from each speaker output to a transistor's base. 10 K for the two series resistors, and a 3k from base to ground. When the receiver un squelches the speaker leads go to about 6 volts, that thru the resistors turns on the transistor, the collector goes to ground, low, providing a RUS (receiver un squelch).

Pyramid sells a cable for interface to a MCS. See if you can use the cable on the Vertex.

Wavetar... I'm going to try this. It should work as long as 5.75Vdc is enough for the ground signal. Can anyone else advise if they've tried this and it will work?

Will, I wish this was something I was comfortable with, but I do not have the knowledge to go this route. I would have to send the radio out to a tech that can do this.

I am going to give Wavetar's method a shot as I already purchased the aftermarket cabling to attempt.

A Pyramid smart cable with be easiest, I just need to find a dealer. Anyone have any recommendations for a Pyramid dealer?

Just an update on this...

The home brewed cable from the 25 pin accessory jack was a flop. I was unable to get it to work. I'm sure with Will's electronic mods it would have.

I purchased a Pyramid "Smart Cable" and it worked perfectly.

Unfortunately the Pyramid SVR-200's are very difficult to work with. I purchased an older unit and am unable to locate the software for it. Apparently the free sw on Pyramid's website only works with the newest models. I'm finding the support for Pyramid is slim as well. I have been unable to find a dealer that can program or align these. My next route it try a Vertex VXR-1000. I will update how that goes.
