M1225 REPEATER

I have a VHF M1225 repeater nothing special for a controller just a standard desk unit. tI has been working fine until the other day where it justs starts to transmit out of the blue. Morse code ID is on and that is not it. Even when a antenna is not connected it will transmit for 180 sec dead key. At first I thought someone found the rx freq and tone but with no antenna hooded up I ruled that out. Any ideas???

Check the power supply.
Read the codeplug, save a copy, write it back in.

Got a codeplug from the same model, but a different machine? Or have you created a fresh codeplug from a default?
If it still fails after a fresh codeplug, I'd replace the command board.

Have you checked that it's not a short on the front panel mic or accessory PTT?

At first the plug was corrupt could not read the machine. Down loaded a code plug from the super code plug site and it programmed up fine and was working great for a few days. I was suprised they even had one for the same radio.

Took the repeater apart this AM and everything looks good even the remote mic and speaker in the kitchen and garage. Been on for about 45 mins now and playing nice. Not sure what the glitch was. Remote mic and speaker wires are soldered to the back side of the mic and speaker jacks behind the front control panel.. That is ran with a phone 6 wire cable to the remote control units. Done nice and neat.

Ah Ha... extended local control. Things like PTT do not take much resistance to ground to key up the TX.

And if it's at a remote site, could be RF keying the remote somehow.

Yes........ that remote setup probably should have been mentioned in the original post.
Is there a way to easily disconnect it right at the repeater, such as a modular wall jack? That way if the problem reoccurs you could unplug it and see if it is the cause.
A bad remote, a little condensation in the cable, a little bit of mouse gnawing or cable pinching is all it would take to get an intermittent hung keyed problem.

Remotes were not even hooked up at the time. Plug it into the wall 110v morse code ID would sound and a few moments later just a dead key. Has been working fine right now from my last post.

Worth a try. Start from scratch, blow that in, and see what happens.

I think I have found the problem, The fan runs all the time, there is a switch on the back of the unit for continues use or thermal. I switched over to thermal where it comes on when needed. Been working like a charm, It seems to be playing nice so far, remotes have been hooked back up with out any issues. Remenber it was doing this with nothing hooked up to it.
