XPR5550 External Speaker ?

Post by Thomas »

I have my external speaker connected to pins 9 (-) and 10 (+) on the accessory connector but I still only get audio out of the control head speaker. Do I have to disable the control head speaker? Is there something in CPS that needs to be checked off. Looked through CPS and cannot find anything. I know its probably something small I'm missing but I can't find it. Any suggestions appreciated.

I don't know anything about what pins go where, but on my 5550 I plugged in my external speaker, & it worked perfectly w/o doing anything to the CPS. GARY

No it did not. In reality both speakers now work, but the external speaker is so much louder it's difficult to hear the internal speaker. I'm told this is normal, & doesn't damage anything. Years ago I tried this on a Maxtrac, & the radio did not like running 2 speakers at the same time, so I had to disconnect the internal speaker, but it's not an issue on the XPR series. GARY

Was the same with CDM series. The internal speaker remains active, but is a higher impedance, so the external speaker dissipates far more power (louder)

(woohoo, 1000 posts, some may have even been useful)

Tested with another speaker and it works. Was trying to an older desktray with speaker from an mcs2000 which has 3 wires, a red a black and a brown. When I use the desktrays I always used the red and the black wires for the mcs2000. I had to change out the black for the brown on the XPR and it started working. Took the control head off and unpluged the speaker in there. All is good now.
