MT2000 VHF from M3 to M2 question

I have a MT2000 VHF H01KDH9AA7AN with dead pixels. I located a M2 NTN7153B (6 button limited keypad) case with display and installed it. Everything works except I do not have front keypad function. I know the parts are interchangeable but can I enable the front keypad functions and if so where in the RSS do I do this? I think the worse case scenario is I can enable a side button to scroll through zones. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Zones are only changeable via the ABC switch on top or front buttons on display radios. The model 2 front was exclusive to MTS radios, don't know if it will work on a MT.
Never saw any function to enable or disable keyboard function so I don't think RSS settings are the issue.
I think it comes down to 3 possibilities a- try resetting flex to verify good connection or flex could be broken somewhere
b- The mdl. 2 MTS front might not be compabitible with MT c- replacement front is inop. Good luck.

I have everything seated good. The display and all the side/top buttons work. The front case and display/ribbon are all brand new. I will try a few configurations on the buttons and see what works.

Thanks

The model II front will not work with an MT, only on the MTS will a model II housing work. MT2000's were only designed with a model I or III.

You are correct. The front buttons won't work, however, I am able to get three zones of 16 channels and get the scan lists to work. I use the A-B-C switch for the three zones. It has become a 48 channel front display radio. I am good with that as I have less than $40 in this radio. All of the side and top buttons work. I was only able to use the A-B-C switch as a zone switch. Thanks to all who assisted.

Yup, you'll still be able to control the zones via. the ABC selector on the top of the radio. Since you did that already, and the display works, you now have a nice front display MT2000 :-) The only thing I like better about my MTS, is it displays the MDC ID on the top display of the radio. ( of course, it has to be flashed for that ), other than that, I loved my MT2000. Does everything right out of the box ( MDC, QCII, etc. ). Plus for the 40 bucks you paid, you really can't go wrong !

why not just remove the good board from your good model II housing over to the model 3 housing and call it a day? The only difference between the NTN7153 and NTN7154 are the plastic housing and rubber keypad. The display board, flexes, speaker/microphone are identical parts.

No soldering required. Just follow the step by step instructions in the basic service manual. Removal of all parts requires only a small flat blade screwdriver and about 10 minutes of your time.
