Does anyone what type of Nicd battery goes inside a MT1000 battery pack? They appear to be similar to AA but longer in length.

Thanks
-Tom

You can use AA and fill the void. There are sizes with names such as "5/4AA" (in other words, 1.25AA) one of these is probably what you seek.

this is what I have used recently from all-battery,

place the old battery in a freezer for a few hours and remove it and hit the bottom of the dead pack with a rubber mallet around the seams and the bottom should break off.

Remove the old cells by prying and rocking them out with a flathead screwdriver or similar tool.

For this new battery I had to carefully cut the plastic coating away since the cells are arranged in a flatpack configuration.

I then gently flipped the cells so they were adjacent to each other in a 4X4 configuration to enable them to fit in the original pack.

I didn't worry about reusing the original battery thermal switch but you could break a link in the new battery and solder the old thermal switch in if desired.

I simply wired this battery in to the original packs red and black wires without reusing the original thermal switch and then I used an aftermarket MaHa multi cell capable charger which takes care of the fact that this is NiMh and the original charger was for NiCads.

Over on repeater builders site there is a mod for the original charger to use NiMh cells in the Genesis radio section.
