Is there a way to program the radio for channel 2 power on?

If it has a display, you can name it chan 2 but put it in mode 1. If yours just has the LED panel, I'd have to visit the RSS to see if there is a default / power up channel that can be set.

Just a 4 channel button/LED

I think you are saying to have the radio go to channel 2 upon power up.

If so the radio needs to have 12 volts all the time to hold it on ch 2, turning on or off by IGN sense line.

Customer has 3 locations(channels) and wants them to turn on to the designated channel for a particular location.

They should power up on the channel they were on when turned off, as long as main power has 12 volts all the time as Will said.

There is nothing in programming that I've ever seen to make it power up on a particular channel. Those 4 channel radios don't even allow for a "home" button.

I think your options are pretty much limited to "customer training". :|

Then they need to do what Will and Jack said - wire the radios to battery and use the ignition sense lead to turn them off.

OTOH, if these are in trucks with battery switches that kill all power, and it's SOP to kill the truck at the end of the day, there isn't much you can do if the customer wants all radios programmed the same. You could get tricky with a timer circuit that momentarily pulls the BCD select lines in the accy plug to put the radio on the correct channel.

I thought of that too, but as far as I recall those channel steering inputs are not momentary, they have to be held continuously to select a channel.

You're probably right. And if he does that, then they can't change channel at all from the front panel. He might as well reprogram them with mode 1 as their home channel for each location.

If you are switching the power lead, just do a power cycle on channel two using the power button on the volume knob while power is applied. Now everytime power is applied it will power up on channel two.

This I have not heard before. I'm going to have to try that the next time I get a chance.

OK, I'll take the bait & say it: You need smarter users. If they're too lacking in IQ, care, concern for doing their jobs right, and things like that, then they need to be replaced. If they can run your average smartphone or watch TV on cable, with hundreds of channels available, then they ought to be smart enough to switch to the proper channel when in a different area.

Radio techs should not have to go around their elbows to get to their *ss, just to please (lazy) users.

But I'll grant you, it's an interesting technical problem. I'd definitely look at the channel select line solution. {wink}
