Right now I'm charging my Jedi, & XTS3000/5000 batteries in the car using the AdvanceTec/Motorola pulse chargers. They work great, & since the wall wart for these supplies are 13.8 volts, I feel safe using them in the car where the voltage will be 12.8-13.8 volts depending on if the engine is running, or not. However, I have recently acquired a few Li-on non Impres batteries, & I'd like to charge them in the car too using the NTN8831A tri chem charger. However, the wall wart for this charger is 18 volts. I don't know why it would require 4+ extra volts to work, but my question is will this charger work correctly by running at 12.8-13.8 volts in the car? GARY

Gary,

I have used the Advanced Tec / Motorola labeled chargers off car battery without any problems.

I too have been using the Advanced Tec/Motorola pulse chargers in the car for years, but I was wondering if the Motorola Tri Chem NTN8831 charger which comes with the 18 volt wall wart is OK at 12.8-13.8 volts. GARY

Was at a small hamfest yeaterday, where a county employee was selling a bunch of these chargers as surplus. Most had 13.5 wall warts, so I asked him the same question, & showed him where the charger needed the 18 volt wall wart. He said he never saw that, & when I dug through the box, I showed him that some of the chargers did have the 18 volt wall wart. He never noticed this, but said many of the SO's did use that charger in the car. So I guess he answered my question. For $10 I couldn't resist. I also picked up a Motorola [AdvanceTec] gang pulse charger [4 bay] with 4 Jedi inserts for $10, with the matching power supply. It was a great day. GARY
