1550LS "unprogrammed"

Post by ten13 »

After programming a 1550LS with only Conventional channels, when the radio is turned on the first Channel of the Conventional Zone is viewed, but the radio immediately shows the word "unprogrammed." And I can't get it back to the Conventional Zone. It's apparently not scanning, since that one channel does not receive anything.

Also, the buttons are not programmed as I have them in the S/W.

What did I do wrong, or haven't done right yet?

Thanks!

PM coming your way asking you to send me your codeplug. I will look it over and see if anything jumps out at me.

I've look over the codeplug and I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Here's one thought. If you go down in the sub-folders in Program Files where your CPS is installed, you will find a folder named Samples. In there are sample codeplugs for most (if not all) possible models of Waris radios. Find the one that matches your model number and tanapa. Load it into your CPS and then try shooting it into the radio. If that doesn't clear the problem, try again, several times, and see if it straightens things out.

If it does, you should be able to shoot your codeplug in properly. If you do all this and your codeplug shows the failure again, you might want to reload the sample, fix the radio again, and then build a new one from scratch for your needs.

I took Steve's advice, and loaded the 'sample' codeplug into the radio, and things seem OK. I programmed one frequency into the sample plug, and loaded it up, and that, too, seems to be OK.

When you look at the "Conventional Personalities" in the sample codeplug, you see that there are three "things' there: "Passport," Passport Revrt," and "Conventional 1." Frankly, I don't know what that "Passport" is, but they were missing in the original codeplug that I programmed (I think I deleted them to make my life a little simpler, or so I thought).

In any event, with those two "things" left alone, and programming "Conventional 1" with a conventional frequency, when the radio comes on I have to click the left/right arrow buttons to "Conventional," then one of the other buttons (forget which one as I type this), and I go into the frequencies that I programmed. And since those "Passports" were deleted on the original plug, when I again uploaded that original plug I had the same problem as stated in my first post, above.

So, the bottom line is, everything seems to be corrected. I will now have to start from scratch and reprogram the new codeplug with all the frequencies needed, but I will do that over the next couple of days.

Thanks again, Steve!

Passport is a type of trunking system. When you assign a personality to a zone it will let you pick if it's a passport personality or conventional.
You should be able to set up a zone with just your conventional channels.
There are also separate button assignments for conventional and trunking, make sure you are setting up the conventional buttons.

Okay, a little correction... the Passport personalities are conventional personalities with Option Board enabled under the Advanced tab. They work with the Passport option board which is programmed though the Option Board Programmer (squiggly red arrow button in CPS).
I'm not sure if you can take all of the passport channels out, I think they have to match what's in the option board and you can't delete them all in there.

Gotcha.

I did, in fact, do what you said in your first sentence, that is, disable the option board in Advanced. I then made that Passport Personality just another Conventional channel. It remains to be seen if it works, as I haven't had a chance to send it to the radio as of yet. Hopefully tonight.

I didn't know about the separate button assignment for passport or conventional, but will look more closely for it. That would explain one of the problems in my first post.

Thanks, and stay tuned.....

The different button assignments are for conventional and LS trunking.

My mistake again.. I shouldn't post on weekends when I don't have the CPS to look at :/

It does sound to me like you have the passport option card in the radio. If the option board check mark is selected in a channel, when you hit that channel it will switch to the option card programming including buttons and zone defined in that card. Make sure that the option board check mark is cleared out of all of the channels and that should resolve the issue. The passport card is separate software that can be called from within the main software if you have it installed, but if you are not on a passport system you will not need to do anything with it.
