Hello:
I have a few SM120 narrow band UHF and some VHF 16ch mobiles that came in working as trade.
I have noticed the display window is a redish maybe deeper pinkish color back ground.
Was there an option that changed the back ground color to something other than the redish color and if so how was it done ???
Thank you

Unlike the M1225 which can change colors through programming, the SM120 only does red.
Also even though they are "narrow band" you may run into trouble with the channel spacing on them, you may not be able to program some frequencies into them.

Hello:
Yes I was aware of the freq steps that wouldn't allow the in between new nb freqs but it does do the even steps so they will work here around my area.
I just applied for a 12.5 nb license for a new customer here and in my area the fcc is still licensing on the even freqs since we never were over run with licensees so haven't seen a new actual in between the 25 kHz normal freqs yet.
Odd maybe but we are blessed with not being so over crowded in north west iowa.
And I figured the sm120 might not change color for the redish display.
Oh well I cant say it bugs me bad enough id get rid of one so id say id get used to it if I had it in my truck.
But I don't and wont

so its really ok now

Itll get sold used or used as a spare emergency standby radio for my customers if they need one right now while theirs is waiting to be repaired anyway so no biggie.
But I myself wouldn't buy a radio with the redish back ground display as it looks funky to me as tx red indicator.
The sm120s I took in on trade do work and test well though so good little radios for what they are.

The RED display means the radio has lost its encryption keys.
Not really but, the LED's are all surface mount and can be changed with some solder and time. Done 3 radios before due to the same customer complaint.
