XPR8400 / SLR5000 / MTR5000 analog voter

Post by kblazk »

Which one of these repeaters will work for an analog voter such as a Raytheon or RVS-8 ??? The XPR-8400 / SLR5000 or MTR3000??? I have read some information and am possibly comming to the concolusion that only the MTR3000 will do this analog voter stuff. Obviously an old MTR2000 will do it but these were EOL'ed a while ago and am having difficulty finding them secondhand for 2-meter HAM band.

MTR 3000 can interface with analog voting systems IF you order it with the wireline board. The wireline board is essentially a tone remote adapter on a card that includes status tone generation. It's a bit tricky to get set up, as it interfaces with the station using the backplane GPIO pins, so you have to program the MTR a certain way to get the wireline board to work, but it WILL do the job.

There are no "factory" options to make an XPR series repeater perform voting functions, aside from attaching something like a Raytheon PTG-10 to the accessory connector to generate status tone, and a tone remote adapter to have the voter key the transmitter (if you're using it as a pseudo-repeater).

With regard to the SLR series, I have no experience interfacing these to any external equipment, so I can't help you there. I don't know if they are capable of performing analog functions.
