Stupid ASTRO Affiliation question

It's been a hell of a long time since I've dealt with this stuff.

Does an XTS2500 equipped with SmartNet (not SmartZone) operation support affiliation on PTT, or is it locked at automatic?

Thanks Six. That's what I figured, but having not spent much time with this in years, I just wanted to make sure. Appreciate the response.

If you want to be able to set the radio to affiliate only on PTT, you need an MTS2000 or an XTS3000. They are the perfect radio for directly receiving or scanning TGs on analog Smartnet / Smartzone systems.

Is that also the case with a XTS5000?

XTS 5000 cannot monitor a system "normally" without affiliating. Be extremely careful, the system managers of most systems are very aware of clones/hacked ID's, and can shut your radio off.

You must use the "hidden modes" method documented elsewhere. (No, I don't know how to do it) to properly scan trunked systems with an Astro25 radio (XTS 2500/5000) without affiliating. If you power the radio up and the TX led flashes, you're affiliating, and visible to the system managers.

If/when the systems you are monitoring go P25 trunking, you can buy a BK Radio KNG-P800 or KNG2-P800 and monitor those systems without needing a system key, they will truly "receive only" on P25 trunking systems.
