Can you toggle the power of a high power 110W XTL2500/5000 between, say, 3 levels - Low, Medium, High?

I think the minimum power level is 25W and the max 110W but can you TX at 50W without lowering the TX power level using CPS?

I had to go into the CPS to adjust the TX power levels and select a button to switch to low power.

I don't think your going to get 3 power level operation. Those radios are set up for either low or high power. You need to program a button on the control head and it will toggle between the 2 power levels you set the radio for.

You didn't mention which control head your using. I use the O5 control head, as it provides all the functions and features I need. The hand held control head has a couple of buttons that you might be able to use. If you have one of the W series control heads, again you should be able to program a button for toggling between 2 power levels.

On a hi power radio like that, low power should not be lower than 50-60 watts. GARY

Its an M5 control head which I think is basically the same as an O5 head... I think the only real difference is the O5 head has a tri color LCD display while the M5 head only has a two color LCD display.

I read that you can flash an XTL2500 into an XTL5000 and still use the M5 head..you just have to switch around a resistive pad on the M5 PCB!!

I was hoping that there might be a "middle" power setting on the later 110W radios...I think most of my PSU's are only rated at 25A so they will be running at max capacity using 110W!!

Can you run 110W from a vehicle cigar socket?...although I guess a direct battery connection will be obviously better.

yes, no.

You can run an XTL off a 12v Power Socket as long as you DO NOT TRANSMIT. I did this in my personal truck for a little bit until my console came in.

No 3 level. Only 2. Low power,adjustable from 25.0 to 110.0 (!!! why?) High power adjustable 25 to 120 but has to be same or higher set than low power. Ran XTL 2500 high power brick at 25 low and 50 high before I got my power point set up for hi current draw. Set a button or menu item for Hi/Lo or it's assignable in the personality.

Drivers and PA assembly is not stable below about 25w of output.

Power set is in CPS. Should be Radio Wide > TX Power tab but I cant confirm exact as my programming computer is at the shop right now. This is not the same as TX power calibration found in the service mode. You should find the CPS power set level for low and high will be very close if not dead on into a decent meter and a good high power load (meaning a Bird or Telewave meter and a Bird load) unless the radio is whacked out in the power cal.
