EX500 and Relm RPU3000A

I have a Relm RPU3000A pre-BK radio. It uses EX500 Series Accessories. I have the serial cable for the EX500 and the pin out looks like it works, has anyone tried it?
On eBay they sell the cable but would rather save the $$.
I am also looking for the part number for the correct software, there is different versions apparently of this radio. I have 3 radios and would like to get them up and running. Old radios and not much info on them online.
