maxtrac Ext/Int speaker ?

HI, We have a Vhf Maxtrac 300 that is in one of our rigs,it has an external speaker pluged in to the five pin plug on the rear of the radio.

How do i switch the radio back to the internal speaker ?

When we removed the radio from the rig to use it in the office discoverd that the radio will not power up without the external speaker pluged in.

There is a two pin Berg plug on the logic board near the right rear of the board that the internal speaker plugs into, it is probally unpluged to disable the internal speaker. You can easally trace the two wires from the speaker as they run seperatly from the other wires going to the plugs at the front of the logic board.

Also why won't the radio power up when i unplug the connector for the external speaker from the rear accesory plug.

Hi there the radio is wired for ignition sense.you need to install the jumper back in to get it to work
It sounds like the speaker in the radio is no good. Plug in second speaker across the two speaker wires inside radio.remove wire to Ist speaker inside radio when doing this test.73's Raymond eMail [email protected]

The "jumper" is accually a small Pico fuse, 1 amp size, looks like a green resistor and is called JU801. JU801 is located to the left of the 5 pin accessory connector on the logic board. With the radio's front facing you and looking at the logic board the five pin accessory connector is in the right rear and pin 5 is the left most pin, follow the circuit trace from pin 5 to the left to find JU801. You could use a very fine wire for the JU801. Older radios used a wire jumper.

Alternate: use a jumper from the power cable red lead through a 1 amp fuse to pin 5 on the accessory connector - also known as "Ignition Control".
