APX7K Volume Knob

I like to find a way to tighten my dated APX7K's volume knob.
Too many times when carrying it I would brush up against it and either turn it all the way up or down.

I remember in the past that some would put a small O ring on a 5K but haven't researched if physically you can do that on a 7K.

Anyone???

APX portables already have a torque-adding washer underneath the volume knob. No need to make any hacky mods, simply buy a new one and replace the worn out one. 3275377H01 (red) is the standard torque adder, 3275377H02 (blue) is the high torque adder.

Thank you!

You're welcome.

The volume knob pulls straight off the shaft, although you might have to give it a good yank to get it off. You'll see the torque adder once you get it off, usually it stays pressed inside the knob. The vast majority, if not all, 7000s came with the original red H01 design.

If you really want that knob to stay put, especially if the pot itself is pretty worn out and loose, then go with the H02 blue high torque. If you have some newer model APX laying around work, you can pop those knobs off and see which torque adders they have, and see which you prefer.

PS - When you get the replacement, pay attention to how you install it, because it does matter. The "flat" side should be inside the knob, while the side with the cutout should face the shaft/radio.
