I am looking for a A9 Spectra VHF remote mount. I have a 98 Ranger XLT Extended cab. Where should I put the radio, where to mount the head, etc.

I have a 5 speed.

I am thinking of putting the drawer underneath one of the seats.

Any other ideas/pictures?

Any help and all information is precious!

If it is a mid-power spectra it will fit underneath any seat that is NOT a power seat. Just mount as close to the floorboard as possible. If a high power spectra, it will not fit. Also, if it is not power seats, there is a hump to mount to, underneath the carpet on both sides is wiring harnesses. Watch out for them. I have mounted thehigh powers on the back wall before. I also recently built a box, similar to a speaker box to fit between the jumpseats for 2 spectras, 3 power supplies, and a remote siren with holes on each side to exit cables.

Another place to mount a mid-power spectra would be in the driver's side jumpseat. When you open the jump seat there is a cavity that will accommodate a mid-power spectra very nicely. That is if you don't use the jumpseats very much.

As far as the control head, someone else will have to help you on that. Most state, local, and federal government (which is 80% of my installs) usually don't buy manual transmissions. With the automatics, we just mount the control head just in front of the cupholders towards the seat.

Another hint, if you remove the am/fm radio there is a brace that runs down the middle underneath it. A speaker fits perfectly just right of the brace. It is such a tight fit, you don't even have to secure it. Just be sure to remove the mounting bracket off of the speaker. Slide the radio back in and it's done. Never had a problem hearing one either because there is just a piece of plastic between you and the speaker.
