I have a low power 800meg spectra that I am using exclusivly as a receiver.

My base station power supply failed and I was told by a friend that he uses a 12 volt 1 amp power supply that he got at Radio Shack.

Seeing how all I am doing is scanning and not transmitting will this be ok, if not what is the minimum that will work.

While I don't usually advocate Radio Shack anything, a small low amperage power supply is fine for a receive only config. I would probably opt to more than 1 amp though. If you crank the volume on the spectra, you can pull close to an amp in receive. Spend a few extra bucks and buy a 10 amp Astron. If you really want to stay inexpensive you can try the RS unit, but if I recall the thing runs close to $30.00 bucks anyway. You can get a small Astron for around $50.00

There are several sources for 1 to 2 amp "wall worts" the plug in transformers.
The REGULATED one is what you need and a 2 amp regulated one will be a lot cheaper that a full blown Astron power supply and will work just fine.
