Type I and Type II systems

Hey peoples...

I heard somewhere that you can program a Type II system into a Type I radio by playing with the Size Codes, etc...

Has anybody been able to actually do this? If so..How?

I have a Type I only radio (MTX800) that I'd like to set up on one Type II talkgroup, if possible. Otherwise, it's a paperweight :)

Thanks!

Nope. You can trick the radio to "look" the the system, but you'll get a randomized selection of talkgroup traffic, it may even follow message trunking through several transmissions, but as soon as the talkgroup releases the rf channel, it'll pick up whatever rf channel it sees on the control channel next.

if you really want to try, try fleet size of M or O, and a fleet map of maybe 400, I may have the terminology backwards, it's been years.......

But there is NO way to be type II or IIi talkgroup specific with a type I radio.

Sorry

I have accomplished this very task by using a conversion from Type II to Type I. The conversion chart that I had was off, but once I figured out how it was mapped, it was very easy. I just had to play with it. It will not transmit though, which doesn't affect me at all, but it DOES track the talk group I wanted with no other traffic. I have the link to the conversion chart. It's an Excel spreadsheet that you put in the Type II ID and it gives you all of the possibilities on every size code for Type I. You just have to try each one until it works...
Hope this helps,
Scott

When i get home, I'll send you the link...

There's also a program created by user twisted-pear called H2F that does the converting for you. Using size-code A, I was able to program 10 talkgroups into my MaxTrac800 with no co-talkgroup interference (well, except for one important one that landed on the 'FW' sub-fleet.

It is by far the best and easiest way to work around the TypeI radio to work it on a Type2 system.

Indeed, the radio won't transmit on a talkgroup with this method.

I also used it, but the system I was on, I still had to modify the conversion to work... But once I got it down, it worked...

Twisted Pair's Conversion Program

Hope these help,

I'd recommend the spreadsheet if you have a lot of groups to convert.

I wrote H2F so when I was DOS-only for the trunking software programs or RSS, I still could convert.

Okay, I'm really lost with this.

Here's the talkgroups I want to program:

DECIMAL HEX
5216 146
4464 117
4608 120
4752 129

I've got a Motorola MaxTrac820.
There are the following fields that I have NO clue what to enter:

TYPE I DATA
Fleet ID.............
Subfleet............
Individual ID.....

This is on the Trunking Mode Configuration Screen.

Under the Trunking Personality Config screen:
TYPE I DATA
Size Code.........
Fleet ID............
Individual ID....
Interop Access....

I'm really confused how to set these up to follow the above talkgroups.

Any help would be really appreciated!

take your hex id, convert to decimal and multiply by 16 to get the Trunktracker ID. Plug it into the table.

I'll try it tonight when I get a chance. I'm late!

Ok, you enter in 0x1460 into H2F. You want to use Sizecode A to listen to Type II conversatons properly. So you look for the line starting with 'A.'

You must put a zero at the rightmost point as when the call is sent out over the control channel is contains the "status bit" or t-bit. For a normal call it will be 0, so you add a zero. If you only wanted to listen to patched calls, you would switch 0 to 3, and so on. Freshen up on status bits if you aren't familiar with them.

A(1) 0081-2 RID: 00 [0]

The Fleet is 81, the subfleet is 2 and the radio id is 0. The radio id reflects what you want the status bit to be.

Don't worry about the 1 as it's only there to support Uniden's 'S' sizecode format.
