hi guys,,
i can ger a IBM 750 486 20 MEGS OF RAM...will this work with the rss....i also hear a pentium one at about 60megs can run rss...any ideas

Hi:
The IBM 486 would be a ideal program
platform for your radio if it is stable.
Although others have indicated they use a
pentium class computer, I would strongly
urge against it.
I have 100's of horror stories about radios
being corrupted either by a unstable computer, Poor cables, cheap ribs, and well
two many strikes, you
and the radio may be out some hefty monies.
Use caution, SAVE major repair bucks

Monty could probably give you the best practical advice concerning the optimum computer for programming but here is what Motorola recommends out of their Saber RSS Manual:
Computer: IBM PC or Convertible, IBM-XT, IBM-XT/286, IBM-AT, IBM-PS/2:Models 25,30,50,60,70 or 80.
Memory Required: At least 640k bytes of RAM
Operating System: DOS Version 3.1 or later.
Communication Card: Serial port....must be compatible with the IBM asynchronous communications adapter.
I am using a solely dedicated desktop IBM PS/2 386 @ 20MHz with 8Meg of Ram and an 80Mb Hardrive for programming and have yet to end up with a paperweight Saber! Just be very....very careful when starting out as you can easily make a fatal error at that point.
