Audio adapter BDN6676

I just got a Motorola audio accessory adapter (BDN6676) for earphones,
headphones, etc.

I tried a regular mono ear bud with a 1/8 inch mono plug, and it fits, but
it doesn't work. It causes the radio (HT 1000) to be keyed up constantly. Do I need to use a genuine Motorola ear phone for proper operation?

Try a "stereo" plug instead. It will be divided in at least 3, and may not key the radio.

It too should key the radio. There is a capacitor that needs installed in parallel with the mic side of the circuit. Shorting out the capacitor sends a PTT signal to the radio through the side connector.

I have a diagram that someone on the board assisted me with to create a similar setup for a non-motorola headphone. I can email it to you if you like. I'd post it to my web server but it's not cooperating lately.

Nope, I tried that; a stereo plug does the same thing.

Dang, well the only other option is that the plug will only work with a 4-split phono (for a headset/speaker/mic set) Like the plug on a Yaesu FT-50 speaker mic..... You need a different adapter or a headset/mic of some type with the 4-contact phono plug.

The BDN6676D adapter requires a 3.5mm THREADED plug. I suspect you will need to get this from Motorola if you want everything to work properly. Since you laid out the $52.50 for this Motorola custom accessories adapter, why not spring for one of the compatable Motorola earpieces? The little earphone "speaker" w/ the ear foam cushion is BDN6719A @ $35. The regular earpiece is the BDN6781A @ $27. We use 'em both, and it's a matter of personal choice as to which one you might prefer. With the threaded plugs, these stay in place.

We also use the Motorola active noise reduction (ANR) headset with our XTS3000's, which connects to the same BDN6676 jack that you refer to. This ANR headset is the model RMN4052, w/ RKN4095 remote PTT switch. This setup works great around the flight line where it is really noisy.

Well, I do have a Moto earpiece # BDN6665A en route to me that I got on eBay, but the adapter arrived first; I had several different mono and stereo earpieces that I thought I would try first. None of 'em worked. Guess I'll have to wait for the "real /\/\ deal" :)

Not sure if the BDN6665 will work.

I hope it will, I thought the BDN6676 was the only audio adapter that they made that will fit the HT1000, and I have seen that earpiece listed under accessories for the HT1000

I use the adapter on my HT1000 for my headset that I added the treaded colar plug to and of course the capacitor in SERIES with the earphone hot wire, the "tip" of the plug.

Where Can I get just the 3.5MM threaded plug, so I can hot wire my own thing ?

Any Ideas? Ive checked w/ a couple of elect. supplies but Id like to make sure the thread matches up..

The photo did not come thru.

The 3.5mm threaded connectors are available from Twitco, in New Hampshire. $ 5.00 each
