I have the RSS on the laptop we use for our radio programming. All has been going well until today. We received two GTX portables of the same model as the rest of our HTs. When I went to program the radios, the RSS failed on reading the codeplug and said this model was not supported. I double checked and the model numbers matched. I tried one of the other HTs and it worked fine. I'm stumped. The only difference between the radios is that the new pair we got are a year newer than the rest of the radios. Anyone got any ideas on what is going on here? I'd hate to have to tell the boss I can't get the radios programmed. Thanks.

Hi:

If you have Ligit Software, you are entitled
to " 1 Free year " of updates, after the 1st
year Expires, you will have to pay 125.00 on a anual basis to keep your RSS up to date.

This " update " process was done so that persons MUST upgrade their RSS to keep thier
radios up to date, and to keep RSS piracy down to a minimum..........( HKJDIKDH )

Many times if you sent a Motorola portable into the Service Shop, it was " Upgraded " with all the Newer Firmware. And if you had
Older series RSS, it would not work on your
the radios you sent in.

So, you are sorta stuck if you have outdated
SW...Please don't blame me....Its a Motorola
policy.....

I truly do not like it anymore than you do, but WE operate as the QC department figuring
out all the problems, Motorola Fixes the Problems, and then ~//~ comes out with a newer version of RSS to force us into buying the newer versions.......

A Good policy is NOT to send your radios to the Service Depot....Find someone in your area to maintain the radios.....

This is bad news indeed. Will a new RSS work with the older radios? Is there any truth to the rumors I have heard about having to buy a RIB, cables etc. to get the RSS, if you don't have an open account? The laptop, the cables, the RIB are predate my employment and certainly no one around here knows a thing about the equipment, much less where any receipts are. I have a copy of the Software Agreement and an order form. Can I just fill out the mess and send it in? I wonder if there is a way just to copy an eeprom from one of the older radios and use it in these ones. What a mess!

Hi:

Well, 1st , don't get too upset, as your
Software may still be updatable !

Since you have some New Radios, and the others are not to old, its possible of course
you are still within the Update time period, and even if its expired, send ~//~ 125.00 and you should be able to renew the subscription

You DO NOT have to purchase all Motorola
related Hardware ( although its a good idea )
on these later model radios. I sell hardware
all the time, but its against Motorola Policies " For Anyone " to Sell, Copy, Give away SW that is licensed to another party.

Hence, again, this is how Motorola keeps their Products Up to date, and Foils the
Pirates. Some radios can even have a password
encoded into them preventing a alternate dealer ( or customer ) from making any changes to the radio. ( something I strongly
disagree with ) What should happen if a radio
is encoded with a Dealer password, and they go out of business?

In answer to your Question, YES !! All NEWER
Software will work on Older radios, but the reverse is NOT true ( as you have found out )

If you list the type of radio, I can ( or Motorola can ) tell you what version will work with your particular radio.

Also, another note of interest....Some Radios
are a Export Model....If you should have come
across one of those, US Software WILL NOT support radios made for Export only.

Anyhow, If your company needs the License
Documents, contact me or Motorola, and they
will send them to you for Free.....Fill the
Documents out " Properly " and you should then have no trouble at all in ordering whatever SW ( or Parts ) that you need to support your radios....

Most Older radios are not governed by this
Non-Sense, and you might consider getting some GP300's MT's HT's as those are pretty
good radios if you desire Perfomace over
whistles and Bells

Lots of controversy over CDM / Pro Series
at this time...Some love them, some hate them. Not to many concerned wether I dislike
them or not.....As far as changes are concerned, forget it....Trying to change
the Windows based Programs can not only Kill
the RSS, but can turn a late Model radio into a Expensive brick.

How would one identify an export radio. These are GTX HTs Model: H11WCD4CB1AN Type: LTMA Serial: 866FYAxxxx

I've found the RVN4150 RSS 4.004 or some version currently being sold by Mot. I suppose I will fill out the license agreement and hope it will work.
