I have a question about programming the MCS2000.

I programmed one personality with PL and also checked the box for MPL function. I just found out that if the MPL function is checked, the PL in the personality is not used.

This is quite different that the S9000x where you can use the personality's PL. To use a different PL, hit the MPL button and it will used the pre-programmed MPL. And if you hold the MPL button, you can then scroll through the list and select a different PL.

Does anyone know if Motorola address this problem in a newer Windows version so that the PL in the personality is used even though the MPL function is checked. If so, what version software.

That is the problem with using MPL is the newer radios, I believe the MPL function changed with the introduction of the A7 Maratrac. Same situation.

I don't believe any version of the MCS2000 CPS or RSS corrects that function.

I can't get mpl work at all

It's a UHF 403-470 High Power Model III

The radio has been programed by the local shop several times,
but no luck. I have been watching while it was programed.

It has MPL enabled on 8 modes, all in one zone.

It does not do anything when you try to use MPL, No Beep, No Boop,
No Icon on the display, nothing.

They have tried assigning diferent buttons on the head, No change.

Putting in a PL on those modes, No change

They tell me " We have never seen a MCS2000 that didn't do MPL "

They don't know what to do next

Could it need a firmware upgrade ??

That is a distinct possibility. I'm not sure what firmware version started supporting it, but do know it came along later. Have you compared the version of the radio in question to any others that seem to work? The newer RSS will of course still show it as an option, but if the firmware doesn't support it, no go. You're best off giving Motorola a call & seeing if they know what minimum firmware version is required. Unless someone here happens to know off-hand...anyone?

Nothing to do with your radio shop, really. You need a FLASHport upgrade in order to get a newer firmware version. They must be ordered through the Motorola regional dealer rep...and they won't do it for Joe's radio off the street. Your only option would seem to be sending it into the Motorola depot & pay the flat-rate repair charge to get the firmware upgraded. I'm not sure what it would cost in US dollars, probably around the $375 mark.
As a side note, LAB RSS will not help you in this case, as it only forces codeplugs into radios, it cannot upgrade your firmware version.
