I was thinking about rebroadcasting middlsex county Fires Disp channel 46.18 over my VHF high business base,

is this ok yes no maybe

Not a good idea for many reasons, besides not being allowed.

A quick reaction is that this would be outside the scope of your business band license, since the communications would not relate to the business activities that grounded your business eligibility.

Not to mention that you technically have changed your station class from a base to a repeater, which probably isn't allowed either.

Probably depends on why you want to repeat the information...if it just to scan..probably a host of reasons (legal & ethical) on why not to do it...if you are a volunteer FF and want to repeat pages due to poor dispatch range, already carry a portable & don't want to carry a pager..etc. you may get permission to decode a two-tone alert (if your dept. uses 2 tone paging) and transpond an alert on your system...Z

Back in the 70's, Kansas City Police had what was known as 'Operation Barricade'.
These were usually the typical 'Be on the Lookout' broadcasts that you still hear today.

During the operation, KCPD radio was simulcast on some of the bus and cab radio systems to add to the eyes and ears of the PD.

Because the nature of the traffic would be considered emergency, it was, and probably still is exempt from the rules regarding the use of the channel.

Since the cab and bus companies were participating in the operation, and not being entertained by it, the retransmission was justified.

You might be able to justify it for emergency traffic, but not routine radio traffic. Your first choice should still be the frequency that you are trying to monitor/use.

FCC rules and international treaties specifically allow you to monitor any wireless communications except

--cellular
--broadcast remote feeds
--encrypted communications

These same rules and treaties specifically prohibit you from retransmitting what you hear or from divulging it in any other way for personal gain.

Also...there are very specific prohibitions in the rules concerning retransmitting any communications licensed in one service via a transmitter working in another service. One key exception is that space shuttle audio can be retransmitted via amateur repeaters, with specific permission.

So...the answer is no.
