Ok, I jus got a 1989 Toyota Camry, in pretty good condition, but the only problem is that there is barely any room to mount my radio and siren anywhere. Good news is that the manufacturer left like 4 switch spaces with covers, so theres my lighting switching method there. I have plenty of room in the trunk, and I plan on going with all remote mounted equip. I plan on removing the factory stereo and replacing it with a smaller CD/FM/AM/MP3 and satelite reciever. I was just interested to see if anyone had any ideas how hard or how expensive or any info at all to remote mount the head to my GM300 under the stereo?

Here is a pic of another cars console that they have replaced the factory stereo with. Do you think I can get away with mounting it under?

Currently, I have a 1/4 VHF trunk mount antenna on for my portable, but I am adding a 1/4 near dome light, and this should be no problem. I have only had time to glance at the firewall for a possible route for 12v, and I have found ignition control. Other than that, does anybody have any other tips/tricks/comments?

GM300 should fit perfectly there - I just did an older Nissan Maxima with the same DIN size pocket there, and it fit like a glove!!
I never did a radio in a Camry there, but did do a Radio shack scanner. Also worked out very well.

That space below was where I put a Federal Signal siren. I can't remember the model number of it, but it was VERY thin and had two rocker switches. I had to cut the back out of the Camry's 'mount', but when it was finished, it looked like a factory install. I also had a 'remote mount' Pro 2006 scanner mounted on the dash right below the dual air vents (had the body of the scanner mounted under the passengers seat). Had a Maxtrac mounted sideways on the center console (on the passengers side). I wish I had a picture of it all, but it worked great.
Also, you speak of the switch spaces. Let me tell you, they worked great on the strobes and the flashers that I had. I just had two antennas, both were trunk lip mounts, the ones that are like 'L' shaped. I had one on each side of the trunk. I was trying my best not to drill 'major' holes in the car. I should have just drilled away, 'cause my ex-wife got the car in the end...lol She lost out in the end...hehehe
