Has anyone run STX RSS on a Pentium computer? I cannot seem to get it to read or write, and I am assuming that the computer is too fast. I get a "port busy for 5 sec." or "no response after transmit" error. It is a PII, 366 MHz, running in DOS.
I don't have any other computers to try it on, or I would be able to test it myself. MTSX works flawlessly on this machine.
Thanks for the help,
Yosh

I know I'll hear about this BUT...
When I have problems running rss on my Pentium, I disable the internal and external cache in the BIOS, boot into REAL dos mode (thanks microsoft for dumping it...like they're doing to NT..another big can of worms) and if I have to, run MoSlo.
Of course, if you downloaded the rss from somewhere, it is probably a bad copy, those have been floating around for awhile (how many people remeber that guy handeld 'MotoPolice'???)

It runs on my P-120 Compaq laptop just fine. When you say "running in DOS", what exactly do you mean? Do you have an actual DOS partition? Are you using the "re-boot in MS-DOS mode" from the Shut Down menu? Maybe a boot disk? You have my email Yosh, so give me a shout & I can probably help you. One thing though, the newer MTSX RSS has been written to work on much faster, modern computers, but the STX was written in the time of XT/286's, so you may have problems with it no matter what.On 2001-12-19 18:50, Yosh wrote:

DOS can be accessed by going to shut down menue and choosing restart in DOS -win 95/98 is how i run dos,I also have a 486/25 DOS only laptop, works great for most software,
win 2000 / XP are not "dos based" there is a form of dos but i would advise not using it.
you (as stated before old computers are safest and can be obtained for low to no cost)
