i guess i should have clarified what are some of the programable features you can do with software?

and when setting up a repeater for a protable to do dtmf how hard is it to get it set up for a telephone relay?

you can program plenty of nifty features in the HT1250...as long as you are willing to SACRIFICE features for performance.....get yourself an MT2000 and let your dispatcher worry about decoding MDC1200..........unless you are using it for recreation...then it's kinda fun.......

mostly it would be used for fun.

but id like to try the phonepatch dtmf for ham.

i think that be cool at least to try it out

It is easier to use the DTMF if you program it to do this but,you can use it any way.All you do is press and hold the PTT and enter you access code on any channel or deaccess,even if it is not set to phone mode on the CPS.

how do you know what the access code is if your using the radio as ap hone on ham?

Most Ham repeaters use a * to activate the phone patch dial-tone, then dial your number, (down here we use the area code also) when your done..use your callsign & say: "clear the patch" and press the # key... Or is it something else you want to access?

It's always better to make sure the repeater has an open autopatch, and it helps if you have a valid ham call.
