Hey.... I am trying to get an X9000 low band set up for a guy and need to know about the extender. I need to know exactly what it does and how to check if the radio is set up for it.

But this is the problem. You asked a question, didn't have the time to check out the answer yourself, and guess what? The answer you received is WRONG!

The extender in a low band X9000 is a noise blanker function that gets rid of pulse type noise adn interference by using a seperate receive channel and hopefully the noise is present where the seperate channel is listening, inverts it and presents it to the desired channel out of phase and as a result, cancels it. At least, that's how it works on a Micor, both VHF and low band.

It is not an amplifier, it's a noise blanker.

Thanks George. I recall reading about it in the past but couldn't recall if it was an amplifier or basically like the noise blanker in my IC-706.

I enabled it. I had it on in the past. I suppose if it isn't there it will be okay to enable it anyway. I had it enabled in the past and it gave no error. I neve did notice any pulse type noise from vehicle egnitions so maybe it's there.

Yep, that's right. Motorola called their noise blanker an extender. GE refers to their vehicular repeater (like the PAC-RT or VRS) as an extender. Have to be careful with the confusion.
