Does anybody know if the GP68 is capable of PL encode-only?
I looked at the manual and played with it for
a couple of hours but I only could do PL Encode/Decode.

Paul: I owned UHF and VHF GP68's for about a year, so when I saw your post I went and rechecked the book to make sure my memory was correct on the subject. The receive and transmit PL settings are individual, so you can set one for PL, like 042, and the other for carrier squelch by setting it for 000.
The display should show rPL for receive and tPL for transmit settings. If you're using DPL you don't have this option, as DPL requires use of the code on both transmit and receive.

If you hold down the SQL/B button the radio will display one of the PL codes, and if yo press it again it will show the other one.

Ok, if you select both rPl and tPL, when you turn back to 'normal' dispaly, it say 'CTCSS' and does PL enc and dec OK. If rPL is set to '000' and tPL to'XXX', when back to normal display, says nothing and does
nothing (PL). You think that something goes wrong? Should the radio encode PL normaly?

Paul: The book says that setting either the T or R pl to 000 will make the unit do carrier squelch for that function. That's all I can tell you, except to ask if you are checking the output "live" on another radio with programmable PL so you know for certain what the GP68 is or is not doing.

I'd be glad to photocopy the pages which cover this in the book for you, but there is a GP68 site available but I forget the URL for it. Maybe someone will jump in here and tell you what it is. Otherwise you could try a Google search and that'll probably find it for you. The site I'm thinking of came into existence after I got rid of my 68's.

Like the other gentleman said, you just set receive PL to "000" and your transmit PL to whatever you need (let's say 007) When you close PTT, it will display the "CTCSS" icon on transmit, but not receive. Another EASIER way is to simply press the "a" button in normal operating mode, this turns PL RECEIVE off, but PL will ALWAYS be transmitted if any other value other than "000" is set in the personality.
