One of our company cars is equipped with a Nextel i1000 mobile adapter. The i1000 snaps into a plastic holder that has wires connected to it. There's an external speaker, external antenna, and an external PTT switch for the two way feature. It's made by Motorola.

Questions: what is the Moto part number for this kit, is it still being made, and what was the cost new?

Part number FLN2714A. Still sold by Motorola new for $160-$175 depending on the dealer you get it from. The kit includes cradle, amplified speaker, visor mic, power cable, remote PTT switch and brackets. Seperate antenna is just any type of 800.

On a slightly related topic, we have a device for some of the older nextel's that allowed you to plug in any rj11-type device, we used it for fax machines in our two mobile command centers, these were incredibly useful, but I havn't been able to find them, anywhere, they are a plain black box, with just a motorola logo on them, any clues as to what they might be called?

Any luck on the same type for the Nextel i370xl's. Or maybe even a shoulder mic for the i370's. I have been looking for ages for one of those and can't find them anywhere.

Mike, they just call it an "Interface Box". On analog bag phone interface boxes, it says "Motorola - The Cellular Connection" as a 'model type'. Analog interface boxes are pretty commonplace, however RJ11 interface boxes for iDEN are very rare.

As for the shoulder mics on iDEN, they are only available with R-Series portables!

Note on this - I have the R750plus shoulder mic, and I wanted to know what could I do to make it work with an i1000plus... I opened it up and found nothing of interest...

As for the interface boxes, I'll get you a TANAPA # later this week if I can find it.

Well, I know /\/\ doesn't make 'em but http://www.customearpiece.com/nextel.mainpage.html third item down. I thought about getting one, but figured that I wouldn't use it that much. Not a bad deal though with the lifetime warranty.

It wasn't a RJ11 plug but a co worker of mine wired up a 550 plus mobile adapter to a rj45 box so he could plug in a standard motorola mic. works preety good especially when you are driving down the road with the windows down. I'm not sure how he did it but I'm sure it would be pretty easy. Just need mic hi/lo and ptt hi/lo.
