CDPD in 2005

As many of you know, AT&T has decided to ixnay their cdpd service as of June 2004. Verizon swears it will keep it around for at least another five years. The agency I work for uses a cdpd system. What do you think that the pricing of future wireless will be such as GPRS or CDMA2000 1XRTT? Have any of you used radio data transfer that gets good range and transfer speed?

I also heard similar rumblings regarding ALL cellular CDPD carriers.
As far as an alternative, depending on what your want to do with data transmission, /\/\ has some stuff that's plug and play with the CDM series.
We just completed a demo for an AVL system for a customer on our UHF LTR. They seemed very happy with the results, and we've given them a proposal.
Perhaps you could elaborate on what type of information you wish to convey. A lot of agencies transmit data as well as voice on the same freqs. Data rate on the AVL we demo'ed was 1200 I think. CES has a lot riding on data transmission(they make it for /\/\) Check them out if you need more info.

Vehicle information. Local and state wide warrent checks..ect. And a bit of instant messaging as well as a small amount of data transfer to and from our CAD system.
We have AVLs. We use Navtrac. But found a basic cdpd system was cheaper than to route the info from the Navtrac system. We cover a wide area so basic radio data transfer may be out of the question.

Hello.

When analog goes, so does CDPD.
AMPS supports CDPD by way of the framing rates, no such thing if all you have is TDMA, due to the more efficent use of spectrum.
CDMA, by its very nature, is totally digital.
