Recently, I was able to aquire a UHF Maxtrac, D34MJA7DA5AK. From my understanding from the model number that the D means that it's a 16 channel, low-frills model, 5 pin maxtrac... If it had a 16 pin board, it would be a D34MJA77A5_K, or D34MJA7JA5_K (32 channel, with all the bells and whistles. Based on that information, and the model number on the tag, one would assume it was a 5 pin Maxtrac. (am I correct with this?)
Well, it's a 16 pin maxtrac. It has the 32 channel logic board (reads 320 blocks). I'd like to expand it to cover the full 32 channels. A friend and I tried hacking the MDF file so that it would allow us to put in 32 channels, however, the radio still programs to 16. It does have all the features of having a 16-pin board too...
Here's what I think I need to do to get it to 32 channels.
1) Clone a D34MJA7JA5_K codeplug into the radio (anyone got one for 450-480?), and see if that works
-or-
2) Re-Initilize and Blank the logic board, and put the above mentioned codeplug into the radio
Am I on the right track?
Thanks!

Hi:
One thing !
Look under the Shield Cover and see if you
have the Ver 5.34 Firmware.....If you don't
I have some in a Factory Tube I can sell you.
Next, just reinitialize ( after saving all the Soft Pot Values ) the Logic board to
a 32 channel Radio.
Also, make sure you select the proper Power
level for the Radio.
40 Watt D44, 25 Watt D34
PS: The " D " means DASH MOUNT RADIO

How much are we talking? I'd be interested in 2-3 of them...

Is this something I should try doing if my firmware is 5.34? Will I need a new codeplug? I've never re-inited a maxtrac before, am very curious as to what I'll need to have, what concerns etc I should have before doing this. I'm more than willing to play, I just want to know what I'm playing with in the end. (I do know writing down the tuning values is KEY to making that work.
PS: The " D " means DASH MOUNT RADIO
I didn't mean the first D. I should have beem more specific. Lets see if I do it this way...

D <- This is the Letter I mean.

Thanks for your help. (the letter above would be coinciding with what I wrote in my first post as my understanding of it's meaning.)
Thanks,
Alex

know this might sound silly, but you did remember to go into add channel mode for the radio in rss? had a friend that would send them back to get more than 2 chls in them, when i showed him the screen, needless to say he felt like an idiot. if you have and satill doesnt work...remember this..their are `several' of your same model numbers in there. modifying just the one model number might not be it. some have different options in them, so try ooking for the same model in different places. i had to do 3 model numbers before i found the right `exact model'.

Yes, that's what we have been doing...
We just looked, and the firmware version is 5.04.
