I'm trying to load my xts3000 with a key, from my newly upgraded t3011dx limited keyloader. I've got a NTN8255B board in the radio, which is a DES-DES/XL board. I get a PASS on the display of the keyloader, but after the radio comes out of keyloading mode, it gives me the key fail tone, and displays ILLEGAL KEY. Any ideas?

I can find a reference for that module on the web?!?

I know it'll work on single key and on 1654's (i have them here).

we even used it to keyload into one of nick's radios with software encryption turned on, it took the key but can't get the XL to fly on the air.
did NOT get the IllegalKey thing tho...

What is the Host/DSP in the radio?

The DSP/Host is:

07.08.00.00
N08.02.06

and yep, it's a nick radio.
Software encryption is turned off. So is OTAR.

I had the same thing happen to me. The problem was I was loading a dvp key and trying to use it on a IMBE channel this will not work only DES-xl DES-ofb and DVP-xl (I'm sure AES and fasinator will work too but I ain't got it to try) so make sure your loading a a valid key into a channel that is ok with just des or both.

Well in this case, I've tried DES/DESXL on regular analog and IMBE channels, with the same deal.

Check your multikey settings if you have multikey in the radio. I had a similar deal, and that was it.

I am not sure what the post with the unable to transmit or something with anything other than DES-XL, but DVP-XL does work with IMBE. I may have read that post wrong, but it seemed a little difficult to interpert, if that was the intent of that part of the post.

There are addition settings for -XL in either the persn. screen or simialar, I have seen it before. Just double check ALL your setup screens and submenus.

Ok, well here is an update.

Encryption works fine on IMBE channels. Still getting the same annoying ILLEGAL KEY message anytime I try it on any analog channel. I've made sure OTAR is off, XL encryption is on since this is a DES/DES-XL module, and CXR key management is off.

Still looking for ideas.

This is exactly the problem I am trying to get over, Its just the same deal. Works fine on ASTRO but wont work on analogue, just illegal key message !! Astro Spectra UHF

I have tried using CKR but then I get OLD EMC displayed in all encrypted channels I would sure like to sort this out. A few people have said It must be a setting but I have tried all avenues I can tell you.
