Monty,
Interesting that in the brochure and in your picture the escutcheon surrounding the display and three soft keys is silver grey colored and on the radio I have it is yellow!
Sorry I don't have a place to post pictures - the little brother (XTS2500) is kind of cute!

The radio I have is black, just the escutcheon around the display is yellow.
The XTS5000 catalog sheet also says all models (I,II,II) are optionally available with ruggedized housing in either black or 'public safety yellow'

I bet shops will be stockpiling replacement displays for these radios, particularly if they're going to be used for public safety. Nice large screen, perfect for getting smacked and broken! I love having an alphanumeric display on my personal radios, but considering how roughly public safety radios are treated, it's just asking for trouble....

This brochure also says "The XTS5000 is the toughest and most interoperable radio Motorola makes"
Guess that says a lot about the future (lack of!)of the Astro Saber! Actually they tell me cancellation of Astro Saber is coming early 2002 - they say due to 'parts availability' - but I think it's more a marketing thing.
The Astro Saber is perceived as an 'old' product because it looks like a regular Saber and those came out 15 years ago!
WOW - 15 years - that will make you think about this NEW YEAR thing!
Have a happy one everybody!

They said it! It is the toughest radio that they make.....NOW. I bet you can't drive over it like you can a Gemini series radio. Heck, my Uniden trunktracker can take being run over by a car (and has) and is perfectly fine.
Bend over to the almighty $
