JEEP WRANGLER IGNITION NOISE

I have a customer with an HF transceiver in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler.
With an ambient noise level of S3 on its meter with the ignition off,
the noise rises to S7 with the vehicle running. I substitued a power
supply for the vehicle power and I now believe that the source of
the noise is radiated rather than conducted. My question is: Does
anyone have any experience with this particular vehicle and what
what (if any) was the solution to the noise? Thanks.

I am still playing around with my 99 Wranger Sport, and the DC isn't the cleanest in the Jeeps. Jeeps are notorious for electrical problems. You will most likely have to throw some DC and RF filters in.

Just about all modern vehicle has noise on HF. There is no filtering designed into a vehicle's PCM, BCM, ABS, SRS and other compters, since there is no HF equipment from the factory. This is exactly why the OEM AM radios barely work. You'll need to install RFI/EMI filters on computer power leads and possibly even ferrite beads.

Good luck!

I would have to agree with installing the RFI/EMI filters.

Slightly off topic... a friend of mine once claimed that JEEP stands foe Junk, Each & Every Part.

I started adding filters and ferrites from day one. I had hoped to find
someone who had done this in a Jeep and found the actual source of
most of the noise. Thanks for the thoughts though..........
