Hi all.

I have a defective Systems Saber III VHF, which complains about the COPE eeprom with ERROR 03 (the display unit), and should be fixable by replacing the display unit.

There is a UHF version of the display available at ebay, do anyone have information is the unit interchangeable with this UHF version?

The one I have on the defected VHF radio is NTN5935F, and the one available at ebay is NTN5934G. Motorola's website informs that version "J" of NTN5494 is interchangeable between VHF and UHF modes of Systems Saber.

Yes it will work, simply create a new personality as a uhf and dump it in.

Hmh ok. But doesn't the personality limit the freq. range which can be programmed into it? As it is a VHF model. UHF freqs are not what I want

Maybe a stupid question but I am quite a newbie with these.

Bring up the rss and go to create codeplug , then select the proper model (H43TUN739CN OR WHATEVER MODEL YOU WANT IT TO BE, THEN DUMP IT IN TO THE RADIO AFTER YOU HAVE THE NEW SHEILD ON IT). I have done this several times with no problems.

Ok thanks, I'll try when I get hands on the new faceplate.

Another thing, I have a set of low-UHF Systems Saber I radios, (403-433MHz), and I did just that that I created a new codeplug for the specific model but for the upper UHF (438-470MHz). The radio programmed fine, but transmission ceases immediately after PTT pressing with an alert tone and the RX is dead on the programmed frequency. I think this is to do with the radio's VCO, not a software glitch?

Changing bandsplits is impossible unless you change the internal modules, The modules in a 403-433 mhz radio will not work any high than 433mhz. To go any higher you would need to replace the Modules in the radio.

Even Sabers are excellent radios, they are not designed for wideband operation. You will get acceptable results only 2 or 3 Mhz behind the official bandlimits. You need an UHF high-band (440-470Mhz) radio.
