Astro conventional voting

Post by BJMCDANIEL »

I heard from the waitress at the donut shop that JPS makes the comparator for /\/\otorola P25. I have some grant money, but nowhere near enough for what "M" has quoted. I think the "engineering and implementation" costs are totally out of sight. Is adding voters something I would want to tackle myself? As in: buying the Spectra Tacs and comparator direct, buying my own antennas, feedline, have it hung, arrange for dedicated lines, etc? Are there software issues at the Quantar?

I haven't found a P25 voter mentioned on the JPS website.

It appears cheaper to go hang another Quantar where we are lacking coverage and add a DIU at the CEB.

This is VHF conventional.

Thanks!

If you want to do P25 voting then you need the AstroTAC comparator. The AstroTAC will take each packet of information from each site and use the one with the best bit error rate. So a typical conversation can be comprised of packets from different sites, each being the best BER for that particular packet.

You will also need a GPS standard at each site to time stamp the packets. P25 voting can get costly but works very well.

GPS is required for simulcast, but not for ASTRO 25 voting without simulcast.

Voting

Neat stuff! We have added three sites using leased phone lines. Used HS money, but were not aware that the comparator did not include the capability to monitor voter site status.

Is there an option to monitor status at the console w/o dedicating another pc (and the space)? If so, are there specifics that I can pass on to my MSS?

Comparator Status monitor

I am still seeking a device for monitoring the status of 4 remote receivers, preferably not dedicating a PC for the purpose.

If you are using Gold Elite or the MCC? PC based consoles, they do have a Voter monitor for it. Its an addon. I'll have to dig up what our price was for it, but it was a rip off last I checked. However, it will give you manual control if needed over your sites.

Gold Elite. My problem is not being able to find someone who knows the product. Give me a part number if you can. I am trying to spend some year end money.

Thanks!

When I get home in the morning, I will dig up the part number from the quote I got. I don't think I chucked it.

Any Motorola sales guy (from Circle M at least) should be able to get it for you. In any case, I should have the part/option number and approx cost for you shortly.
