Howdy,
Someone was telling me that for mobile applications that instead of using a battery eliminator a source of power could be applied through the universal connector,if this is true would that be through pin 8 B+ or is my source of info off his rocker.
Thanks.

Pin 8 is actually a ground. Pin 4 has B+ on it (7.5 volts) in series with a tiny 68-ohm resistor. Clearly you cannot feed the radio with power from here. You will cook this resistor. The proper way is to use a battery eliminator designed for the radio, like the RLN4335A. It converts the 12-volt dc source to the 7.5 volts the radio uses. It looks like a battery housing with a cigarette lighter plug on the power cord.

Well Here Is A Great Trick To Operate
a 7.5 volt Radio From A Running Truck.
( In An emergency Only)
Remove The 6 volt Lantern Battery From
The Flash Light and Wire It BackWards
In Series Between The Cigar Socket and The
Radio. Truck Volts 13.8 volts minus the 6 volts
(Wired in series opposing) equals 7.8 volts.
Works Great.

Some Rescue Guys Have 3 and
4 Different Portables and They Buy a Six Volt
4 Amp Hour Battery ($18.00 Rechargeable ni-cad)
and Use It All The Time In The Car.(Engine Running.)

One Person Has Two Six Volt Batteries
Wired In Parallel (1.2 Amp Hour)
To Use With The Portable Radios. With A Flip
Of The Switch They Are In Series To Charge.

.Talk About Saving Money.

P.S. Install a Diode In Series For Polarity
Protection.( And Do Not Forget The Fuse)and The 6 Volt
Battery is Wired BackWards.(Opposing)
(Adding gives 19.8 volts**)
