I have been looking at the HT 1250 considering if I want to purchase one. Does anybody have any general comments about the radio? i.e. how they hold up, is it easy to set up for programming, how the features work, ect. al. Thanks in advance!

It's a long process to program them. Try to get a codeplug from somebody with a similar setup and just modify it.

They need to have their firmware upgraded every three months because of all the bugs in the operating system.

They don't receive as well as Astro, MT1000, HT1000, GP300

The battery life sucks.

The speaker-mics suck.

Their operating system still has a few "quirks" in it.

As for durability....they haven't been out there long enough to really say. I haven't yet seen one that failed from being dropped or from water intrusion, but I wouldn't suggest using it as a wheelchock to stop a runaway truck like you could with an MT1000.

.....other than that, they're nice radios with nice features. I like them, except "M" needs to spend more time and perfect them.

well said.....if you are using them for fire service buy 3....1 that you are using, and the other 2 as spares and rotate them as they all go in/out of the shop..durability is not the same as the old stuff. save a few hundred bucks and Buy a Saber II...or a MT1000 99ch or any MT1000 for that matter...the 99ch is nice because it has a little display which sucks if you have alot of channels but its less likely to get a stress crack or other display problem..if you gotta have a large display, get a saberII

I also agree to get a saber. I have a systems saber III, saber II, and a MT2000 and I like all three of them. I would also suggest an HT1000 or MT2000, they are great radios. But you can't beat the built "like a rock" sabers. I think they are the best radios (durability wise) ever produced.

i have a HT1250LS wich is a trunked/conventional version of the regular HT1250, (the regular HT1250 has about 128 channels, the HT1250LS has 16 conventional channels and some trunked channels)i have has one major problem with it in trunked mode, but M finally fixed it, i dont have any complaints of it in conventional mode, i have a 403-470 band split and do lots of rag chewing on the ham repeaters, sometimes i do so much rag chewing that the radio is very hot when i am done. i have the ultra high cap battery, wich lasts an acceptable amount of time considering how much i rag chew. the conventional side does fine. i use a speaker mic with it alot, and i havent had any problems with the mic, sometimes it gets very rugged use and even gets rained on from time to time, again no problems with the speaker mic (had it 11 months). as for the LTR problem, the data deviation needed to be realligned, it is kinda wierd how it slowly got out of cal over 11 months and finally got so bat the system wouldnot ack the data requests.
as for getting an HT1250...i say go for it, i like the conventional side of it alot. thats my bit.

"Saber" All the way!

If you don't want to spend the big bucks for the Saber, there are many NICE MT1000s to be had at a decent price. I just programmed a 16 channel VHF MT1000 that was bought on eBay. This radio was new and never has been programmed- it still had the protective plastic on it. They paid only $150 for it!!!

I'll take fifty of them, please!!!
