The car is finally done, lot's of work LOL
Consists of 1 - 35-50 110 watt Orion on the COMPROD AM/FM Disguise Antenna and 1 - 440-470 100 watt Orion on the 1/4 wave, Both of these Radios are DUAL BANDED on the lower Orion System Head.
1 - 150-174 110 watt Orion on the 1/4 wave DUAL Banded to the 1 - 470-512 35 watt Orion, Both of these Radios are DUAL BANDED on the upper Orions System Hear.
1 - Motorola Astro Spectra on the Glass Mount Larsen antenna.

The console is a JOTTO DESK CC-1 and the Trunk Tray is a D&R Electronics Mount.

The Siren / Light controller is a Unitrol Omega 8100 connected to a Whelen 314P with the Implala mounting bracket. The Headlight Flasher is a D&R Electronics custom made to plug into the police wire package and the Taillight is the same way, install time for both flashers less than 2 min.

Only wires running from front seat to trunk are 3 radio control lines, all other wires are supplied buy Chevy with the Police Package so there is nothing hard to do.

The antenna mount and cable are runs so no strain is placed on any wires and it looks good also.


The cables are run withing the trunk, through the factory grommet and thru the factory wire harness for security and no adverse bending

Sorry - I dont deal in crappy radios. I thought the "MRK" was a "BK" judging by a lack of quality in the picture at that zoom.

To this day the M-RK is still produced by MACOM (only in VHF) and continues to be a highly sought after radio by may people - myself included.

The M-RK has a reputation every bit as good as the Saber from Motorola and its a A LOT more flexible.

How many portables do you know of that have displays your can read inverted while on your belt with 2 lines of text?

Well, sorry! I have had nothing but poor results from MACOM, ericoson, and GE, so that is what I have to say about them. I hope, and am glad, that you have had positive results.

I guess the skill of being able to identify a radio by the logo on the front of a radio only comes after being a technician for several years.

Hi Stan - Great Job!!!! I have a question on the antennas - The car has 5 radios and only 4 antennas. Are you using the vhf whip on both UHF and VHF with a tuner???

Install looks great Stan... Good luck with it. How much trunk space do you lose with that shelving unit below the deck like that? BTW those MRKs are great radios aren't they... better than a Bendix King for sure


Bill.. I think one of the pictures you can see a diplexer underneath some of the control cabling for VHF and UHF. FWIW

Yes I am using Maxrads coupler custom tuned for the freq. for the 2 radio's, if the antenna 1/4 wave VHF is cut for the 155 + band area it works great with the 470 - 490 band area I use. I can also slide all the way to 510 with only a 1 to 1.8 vswr so it is not bad.

What else are you using for lighting? I saw the part about the headlight flasher and taillights. Are you running a solid burn red and flashing amber. If you want to keep it low key I know some great LED lights to use. The best part is they show no color till they are on.

There are LED RED (Steady and Flashing Blue behind the grill and on the front window passenger side viser.

No ambers in the back but maybe I will add some, the wiring is there so it's easy.

Actually Matt Any radio is Better then an BK Piece of crap. The MRK and Saber and Ht1000 will beat any BK radio ever even a Vertex Standard..

The BK and GE/ERRIC./MACOM equipment is very comparable to Moto stuff. The MRK is a kick butt radio....I wish I could get my hands on a nice UHF model....And yes BK does make great equipment, very durable....That is most likely the reason why most of the US based forestry fire fighting units use VHF BK equipment. Great battery life, excellent TX, and durable.....Just my 2 cents.....

Hey MotorolaKing and Code 3, I'll come by and run over your fancy XTS's etc.. along side my M series King and we will see which one is still repairable if not operational


BTW , King was synthesized and face programmable with a display when Motorola was still mostly playing with rocks.
