MDC SIGNALING

Post by J_L_COHEN »

Ok it another mdc question

First I looked in the mdc topic but it does not answer my question well here it goes

I have a pro9150,cdm1250,gp300 all with mdc set up
our local fd has mdc signaling set up on there radios so when a radio keys up it shows the name ID of the radio (ie engine 2), I would like to set this up for our fd. I have tried to set this up but no luck, I can get the mdc "sound" but no tx id, should I see a name or an id number
any help would be great

mdc1200

Post by radioguy31 »

If the radio is making he mdc1200 (noise) it is putting out an ID, You have to go under the signalling section and name the id. otherwise I think the default Id is 1111. and also on the recieving radio you must set the decode mdc1200 display to RX mdc 1200.

let me know if this helps.

You said your FD has and uses MDC signalling. Then you said you want to setup your FD to use MDC signalling, but according to your first line, you already use it.

Next, you say you get the sound but no TX ID. That sound IS the TX ID. Should you see a name/ID on WHAT? What are you using to try and decde/display the ID??

MATT

sorry, no we currently do not use mdc, but our cheif would like us to have it, I was saying that in the city of Zanesville the fd went to mdc id's and our cheif thinks that is a great idea

While the details will vary with particular installations and equipment, the general scheme for setting up an MDC1200-based PTT-ID system is as follows:

1. You must have mobile and portable equipment that will SEND and MDC PTT-ID.

2. You must have console equipment that will DECODE an MDC PTT-ID.

3. You must configure both to the same parameters.

4. You then assign MDC ID numbers to the portable and mobiles. There are a zilllion schemes, but one works like this:

TANN, where: T indicates apparatus type (i.e., 1 = engines, 2 = ladders, 3 = rescue, 4= utility, 5 = senior officers, 6 = other); A = radio type (1 = mobile; 2 = rear deck; 3 = portable); and NN is unit number.

For instance, 1101 is Engine 1's Mobile; 3202 is Rescue 2's rear deck.

5. If you want alphanumeric aliases to show on the console, you have to program a table of aliases into the console.

6. If you want MDC IDs to show up on the field units, they have to be capable of DECODING MDC; you have to have a repeater that passes the squawk; and depending on the equipment, you may have to define a table of aliases or equivalents.
