Bird Site Analyzer SA-1700P

Post by ASTROMODAT »

I just purchased a Bird Site Analyzer (Model SA-1700P) off-of eBay. Looks like it has never been used, and I don't think the seller even knew what the heck it was! My initial reaction is that it is a blast to use, and extremely helpful. But, I can't see why one would need to purchase the pricey cable jumper kit. I have been connecting the SAs Antenna/Cable test port directly to the input point of the heliax, via the actual 18 inches of coax pigtail that conects the hard line to the antenna connector of the Quant's duplexer.

So, what's the use of the expensive Bird (1.5M an/or 3.0M) test cable kits, other than maybe lashing it up directly to the PD-455, before mounting it, to see if there is an antenna problem? Seems like even this application would work fine with a short length of "known good" coax.
