I-Tact and I-Call channels

Does anyone know if the i-tact or i-call channels are used for the same purpose in Canada ?

That question came up the other day at a meeting I attended. I don't remember the details, but I think the basic answer was yes.

The answer is yes. They don't use them much up around these parts, but I know that Toronto Police has them programmed into their radios.

King County WA also has the ITAC channels. I don't think anyone uses them though.

ICALL and the 3 ITAC's are (supposed to be) used in Canada, the US and Mexico for all 800 MHz interagency comms... they are license free, as long as the users already have an existing LMR license. They all with a PL of 156.7, I believe...

156.7 is the required PL, correct.
They are license-free if, and only if, (a) the agency in question has a valid public safety Part 90 license, and (b) the state coordinating agency for the ITACS has filed and had approved a state plan for use of the 821 channels, and (c) the use by the local agency is consistent with that plan. The ITACs may not be used for routine agency traffic (operational or otherwise), "get the coffee," or anything other than an unusual event with multi-jurisdiction response.

really...hmm...we use em all the time to call the sp to let them know of break downs on the highway all the time...(heheh)...i think is mostly to irk them but they never have complained.

Will someone please post the frequencies in question? I will readily admit that I am too lazy to look them up....

All 156.7.
Limitations on use: 47 C.F.R. sec. 90.617(a)(1).
In many states, the State Police is the administrator of the State Plan, so "irking" them over channels they have the power to shut you out of could be an effective way of reducing your bill for radios.

who knows but since they (the state police)gave us the radios...and it is the easiest way to contact them...well, we use it. as i said i think some of the guys do it to them to irk them, but at the same time they are helping as opposed to just driving by and pretending like it wasn't there. which is what would happen before.
in our state, as with many states, the SP is the target of many a prank and passing the buck. generally muni pd's and state tend to clash juuusssttt a wee bit. in a time of need there is no difference...i guess if someone wants to spend their shift sitting on the highway with an amv, then go crazy...
